Dr Anja Kovacs is an independent researcher and consultant. For almost 20 years now, she has focused on understanding, developing and realizing feminist visions of the digital society. Her research includes groundbreaking work on technology-facilitated gender-based violence, the linkages between bodies and data, and the intersections of gender and surveillance in the digital society. She is currently a senior fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), Canada, and at Research ICT Africa, South Africa, and a non-resident CyberBRICS fellow at FGV (Fundação Getulio Vargas Getulio Vargas), Brazil. Previously, she was the founder director of the Internet Democracy Project, India. Anja has lectured at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK, and Ambedkar University, Delhi, India, has guest lectured in India and Brazil, and has conducted extensive fieldwork throughout South Asia. She obtained her Ph.D. in development studies from the University of East Anglia. She is currently based in Mauritius.
