He is the Executive Director of ToroDev, Uganda. He also doubles at the Team Lead of the ODA-Open Data Analytics, an initiative of ToroDev and UNIRI, focusing on promoting the role of open data and data analytics for evidence-informed urban policymaking in Uganda and the Eastern Africa region. Johnstone currently coordinates research projects focusing on; data governance for improved urbanization supported by the Hewlett Foundation, health data governance in Eastern Africa (Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania) supported by SPIDER at DSV, Stockholm University, as well as exploring impact of digitalization legal framework for inclusive development in Uganda, supported by the GIZ, under German’s Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development.
