Mariam Zaunga is a Digital Security Consultant and Trainer from Mombasa, Kenya. She is currently working with the Digital Defenders Partnership as a Digital Protection Facilitator in East Africa. Mariam also works with ARC Techies as a Digital Consultant and for Internews as a mentor on Infuse Learning Path.
Mariam is passionate about digital security particularly on the protection of users such as human rights defenders and journalists on the internet and how technologies can be used safely to promote their advocacy. She has vast experience working with different civil society organizations to improve their organizational security through training and tools. She has trained individuals particularly women human rights defenders and journalists on their digital security. Some of the organizations she has worked with include HAKI Africa, Pwani Feminists, Hivos, Internews and Q-Initiative.
Mariam has a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems and Technology minoring in Criminal Justice from the United States International University-Africa. Specializing in Forensics and Cybercrime with a minor in Criminal Justice. She is trained and certified on different security aspects including Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), International Ship and Port Facility Security Awareness, SAFE TAG, Ethical Hacking and Data Protection. Mariam is currently pursuing her Masters in Information Technology at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in Mombasa.
