Tao Platt is a technology & economic development consultant with a focus and interest on the responsible & innovative use of data, particularly in international development and the public sector. He is a Senior Associate at the Centre of Digital Excellence (C0DE) at Genesis Analytics.
He has worked on projects across Africa for major development donors, national governments and tech-enabled businesses. These projects include supporting the South African Presidency coordinate and implement digital public infrastructure (including data exchange) in South Africa, leading a USAID toolkit for the silo-breaking use of data in agriculture & climate development work, supporting a major donor to refresh their data usage for monitoring, evaluation & learning and project managing multiple national digital employment creation strategies in Southern & Eastern Africa.
He holds an MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and a BSc in Economics from the University of Cape Town. He is a member of the Turing Institute’s Data Ethics Group and an advisor to the Africa Data Governance Hub.
